The Campey TB220 Brush has become an integral part of greens renovations at Formby Ladies Golf Club, since being supplied by Campey Turf Care Systems in April 2016.

It was the decision of experienced course manager, Rob Sandilands, to purchase a brush for the course, based just outside Liverpool, after seeing how well it backfilled core holes at his previous job in Cumbria.

The positive impression of the TB220 stemmed from the variation of brushing heights. The heavy-duty, but light weight, towed brush system offers seven quick and accurate brushing heights, whilst providing the option to lock-out either the front or rear brush as required.

This gives the TB220 unrivalled adaptability to meet any operation, and also allows it to meet the conditions on the day.

On joining Formby Ladies Golf Club in January 2016, Rob began to implement his plan for maintaining the 18-hole links course, which sits on a 30-mile stretch of Lancashire coastline. The club – that welcomes both women and men – is set amongst coastal sand dunes and towering pines, adjacent to Formby Golf Club, with tight fairways, heathery rough and well protected greens.

Rob knew the TB220 Brush was exactly what was needed and wasted no time acquiring one. Now into its fifth month of use, he states the difference of his greens as being massive.

“I was fortunate enough to borrow a TB220 Brush during my time in Cumbria from another local club. We used it when we undertook greens renovations to backfill core holes, so I knew it was a great piece of kit,” he began.

“When I joined Formby Ladies I knew we would need to undertake similar renovations. So I got in touch with Ian Campbell – UK and Ireland sales manager – at Campeys and arranged a demonstration.

“What really struck me with the machine were the varied brushing heights. Varying the intensity to suit the operation we’re performing, as well as suiting the conditions on the day, with the option to refine our methods in the future, was the main selling point.

“It makes a huge difference when filling core holes; we easily incorporated between 30 and 40 tons of dressing into the holes in one application this spring. We’re also seeing noticeable results in our refinement of the putting surfaces, green collars and approaches.”

Although initially bought just for backfilling core holes, the TB220 Brush has shown how its versatility can help in other operations as well as greens renovations.

Rob has also used it to refine his greens that used to be occupied by a lot of coarse grasses. Using the TB220 to brush the greens before cutting them allowed him to begin the process of re-introducing the finer grasses again.

The brush has been in regular use since being purchased in April 2016, and is now a fundamental part of greens renovations at Formby Ladies Golf Club.
